Hidden Archive
My work deals with events in history that people either wish to forget or ignore. I start by photographing areas around Alabama, such as different streets, buildings and monuments. I point the camera at different angles and locations, going for different a perspective for each photograph. While one image could be a photograph of a famous street, another one could be a photograph of a famous river. The idea is to look through a memory book and remember what happened in the past.
Hidden Archive is a photography series that follows a set of eyes that looks at historic events that have been kept under the rug by the world. This work involves the artist traveling to Alabama and taking pictures of objects that hold significance to the state that is known to hold many prominent stories. One reoccurring thing about each photograph is how the camera is positioned and in black and white. Each photograph is shot at a wide angle, allows the artist to have each picture interact with its surroundings. Why the images are shot like this is to emphasis what has become of each monument, what is around or taken away from the objects. One thing that cannot be altered with each image is the affair that happened in history that people wish to forget but can never be altered.
The intention of the work is to have the viewer look at a turning point in time and see if the world really has made progression since the 20th century. Is everything the same, or is there any significant growth since that time? Has the world progressed since that time period, or is it going back? One thing that we do know is that there a different reaction to certain topic, and the reason is why.
