William Dickson-Brown

Throughout his life, William became fascinated with images by looking through photo albums of his family, with some of them being places his family has traveled. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts program at the University of Houston in 2021. For the Senior Thesis Exhibition, he showed two video projects, with one focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic, and another one that involves a narrative without a story. He also did a make-believe self-portrait series that dealt with a hidden beast, due to having nobody care about his well-being. Delving more into his photographic practice, William’s images focused on self-portraits, which would string together a larger narrative. In his work, he created images using still-life’s, collages, and video, to highlight his struggles of find one’s identity from having multiple personalities. Later, William experimented with film and sound art, which led to him working with music. This would lead him to incorporate soundtracks to his videos.
