Family’s Antiques

The idea of photographing objects and items that are within your families’ home opens up a lot of information about your relatives. From looking at old photographs taken from the past, to finding materials that come from overseas, there is no shortage of what can be found under a person’s attic. Some of the smallest items, like a bottle opener, or a whiskey flask, can hold a lot of significance to a person. There are even objects that remind a person of childhood, like an old toy or pieces of clothing that a person wore when they were young. Most people that have antiques always keeps them in their house, which always begs the question as to why they would have these objects lying around the house?

Antiques are seen as objects that hold a lot of value when taken to the right people to be sold for riches. There are people who would purchase objects that are not originally made from America. However, there are family members that will do the opposite and hold on to those valuable materials for a multitude of reasons. Some do it since they are rare items that cannot be made again, while others do it give it to other relatives. The big possible reason as to why some people keep antiques, even if they hold no value is memory. Like a camera that captures past or present events that cannot be repeated, memories can be a powerful tool if not greater than a camera. When a person sees an object that they hold dear to their heart, it is seen as a valuable treasure to that person. Antiques can lead to untold stories as to why that person decided to bring that object home with them. There could be a hidden message found within the object that leads to significant events at that time period. Or it could be an item that is broken into pieces since there are multiple parts to that item.

There are families that possess one or two objects in their house that hold a lot of value to them. Whether it be furniture or a cabinet, there is a reason as to why it is in a person’s house and not dumped in the streets. If someone refuses to sell the object or give it away, then the antique is treated like a treasure. Unless they wish to part ways with the item, it stays in a person’s home, no debate. Most gizmos cannot be made anywhere else besides the place they originally came from, and even then, the factories that made those objects no longer exist.

Based on what is being shown, each image highlights objects that are found overseas or not made in America. Items that are hidden away in a person’s house means they are considered valuable objects to that person. Some antiques have backstories hidden within them, while others are possessions that shape a person’s character. Families have certain items that they keep with them, whether it be a record player or a radio because they treasure these gizmos that are hard to come by.
